Be An Example of The Believers

Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

1 Timothy 4:12 KJV

We are living in a time where many are not sure what it means being a Christian, is it just a profession without fruits as evidence, or it’s just an appellation as long as you can pray and carry out some religious church activities?

Well if you are not sure, I want to show you five important things to use to measure if you are showing yourself as an exemplary Christian.

1) Your Speech(Words):

Let not corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace to the hearers
Let not corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace to the hearers

Jesus said “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks” Mathew12:34.
Words reveal your thoughts, desires, and motives. Listen carefully to a man, and you would know his true spiritual state.

An exemplary Believer will always be mindful of his/her words because it’s through our words that we are justified or condemned.

Ephesians 4:29 says “Let not corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace to the hearers”.

Like our Heavenly Father, we must be exemplary in our speech, not just to other believers, but also as a witness to the world

2) Conversation(Life-Style/Manner of living):

Make sure your manner of living is not a reproach or stumbling block to the Gospel
Make sure your manner of living is not a reproach or stumbling block to the Gospel

Strangely enough, there is so much mix-up that, it’s quite challenging to differentiate a Believer from an unbeliever in our present times. Your way of living should be able to reflect Christ, judging the things you do if they are in line with the Word of God and pleasing to the Blessed Holy Spirit of God.

“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them”.
Ephesians 5:11

Is your lifestyle or manner of living exemplary to the Believers? Can you honestly say Jesus is proud and happy with the way you live your life? Make sure your manner of living is not a reproach or stumbling block to the Gospel, but an example for the saints and the world to desire to know the Lord.

3) In Charity(Love):

Our love for God is not just a lips service, it must be expressed in actions and deeds.
Our love for God is not just a lips service, it must be expressed in actions and deeds.

When Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment was, his answer was very clear and precise as seen in the verse below.

“And He answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself”.

Our love for God is not just a lips service, it must be expressed in actions and deeds. When we love someone, we invest our time, resources, energy and emotions into the relationship. Check your love scale of preference, where do you spend most of your time, your resources, your energy, and your emotions, that’s what you value most. One of the clear evidence of our love for God is that the same love will be reflected towards your neighbors (other people).
So be an example of the Believer through your love for God, valuing His words, His Church, your family, your nation and the world at large.

4) In Faith:

To properly evaluate if we are exemplary Believers in our faith, we must look at it in three levels of reflection.
a) Faith Towards God; The primary purpose of faith, is for the Believer to relate with God. It takes faith to relate with an invisible God we cannot see with our natural eyes, though nature itself reveals His greatness and splendor. Our faith must be used to seek God the Father, to know Him, to commune and fellowship with Him. The exemplary Believer uses their faith to seek the Kingdom first and not things.

b) Faith Towards Things; Most Believers are taught to use their faith to get things like cars, houses, healings, promotion and other miracles. While this is good and it’s God’s perfect will to bless the Believer in Christ, yet faith only used to get things, is a “gentile faith”, because those are the things the Gentiles seek after. Our faith must be used to get things that advance the Kingdom and not for covetousness and fleshly lusts, things that stirrup pride and worldly competitions.
Faith towards things can also be our character and composure when we are going through persecution, trials, difficulties, and challenges. Do we give up? backslide? get mad at God? Or do we stand strong in faith, knowing that God is with us in the storm and in the clouds of life. We must be exemplary Believers in our faith through tough circumstances to others and the world.

c) Faith Towards Other People; The exemplary Believer will apply their faith towards others to be delivered, saved, healed, they apply their faith for nations to experience revival and the move of God. This they will do without asking for payments or recompense, for freely they receive, freely they give. The exemplary Believer knows that only Father God can reward them, so their works of faith are not for sale.

5) In Purity(Holy desires):

The Believer in Christ must guard his/her heart against these evil desires that defile and opens an avenue for Satan to have a field day.
The Believer in Christ must guard his/her heart against these evil desires that defile and opens an avenue for Satan to have a field day.

Many at times Believers and other people try to undermine the place of Holiness in the Church of Jesus Christ. One clear sign of the work of the Holy Spirit in a Believer’s life is the desire to pursue and live Holy. The center of Holiness is the heart of man. Jesus teaching about purity says;

“And He said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, theft, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man”. Mark 7:20-23.

The Believer in Christ must guard his/her heart against these evil desires that defile and opens an avenue for Satan to have a field day. The Word of God and the Blood of Jesus are sure elements to keep our heart pure because if their cleansing power. The Holy Spirit then tops up things by birthing in us fresh desires which are manifested as the fruit of the Spirit as in Galatians 5:22-23.

Are you an example of the Believers in Jesus Christ? If yes, then continue and seek to be even better.
If after reading this, you realize you have not been living an exemplary life to the Believers, then take a moment to repent before the Lord, ask Him to forgive you and grant you fresh grace to live differently henceforth.
